Parents are stressed - with work, relationships and now with how to help our kids grow up to be healthy amidst food, growth and mental health struggles.
We have been told to get our kids to eat less, move more and cap electronics use. But somehow that just doesn't work, does it? We wind up having food fights, frustrations and O...M...G..., the whining til you just want to cave....

What's a parent to do?
Family in Focus® is about understanding the stress of modern parenting to make the real change we want to see in our families. In truth, the change isn't about changing our kids' weight - that's the BS of diet culture and creating issues with disordered eating. The change we want is to actually enjoy time with our families, cut the chaos and create healthy relationships with food, body and each other. We want to protect our kids from this toxic culture and not bring it into our own homes.
How do we do that?
We start with connection. Connecting with ourselves and our kids, and that's about emotions.
Ick, I know... I was also taught there's no time to focus on emotions and that once you open that can it's like Pandora's box.
But do you know what I found in my pediatric practice? I have found time after time that naming uncomfortable emotions is the way forward. Understanding why they are there and what to do with them (other than just endlessly scrolling on IG whenever I feel frustrated, exhausted, or overwhelmed) helped me understand how to communicate with my kids about their own emotions. And that has completely changed our relationships and our health.
It's time to understand the power of emotions and how they impact our physical and mental health, our relationships, and yes, our weight.
